Your BBB has been made aware of a recall of 39,456 Jeep Wranglers and Dodge Grand Caravans due to issues with the brake switch.
The NHTSA claims that both vehicles can switch out of park without using the brake pedal. In addition to the vehicle switching out of park the brake lights can remain on even when the brakes aren’t being applied.
NHTSA claims that the brake error can increase the risk of crashes, but Fiat Chrysler claims that they have not been made aware of any crashes or injuries from the brake defect. Fiat Chrysler has also said they aren’t aware of the vehicles shifting out of park.
The vehicles being recalled were made from August 7th to September 20th, 2017. If you believe your vehicle is a part of the recall a dealer will fix the issue free of charge, with recalls starting on March 30th, 2018, according to Fiat Chrysler.
Fiat Chrysler has issued identification number U09 for the recall and the NHTSA has given the recall campaign number 18V09800.
