Robo Calls Continue
By Tom | May 18, 2009
It’s not just the auto warranty companies that are using auto dialers to contact consumers, but also “companies” offering to lower your credit card interest rate are inundating our area with robo calls.
A consumer contacted our office wanting to know what she could do about one such call. She said that she received a call from (866) 980-2265 with an offer to lower her credit card interest rate. She then had to press (9) in order to speak with a representative. She didn’t know that she was agreeing to have this company charge her card $995.00 before performing any service.
The phone number is linked to a company with two different names, Genesis Capital Management and Management Consultant, both located at 7557 Sand Lake Road, PMB 110 in Orlando,
“This may not be the only company making these types of calls,” said Tom Bozikis, Vice President of the Tri-State BBB. He also said, “The majority of callers indicate that they are on the do not call lists.”
Consumers need to verify that their phone numbers are still registered on the various lists. Indiana residents may call 1-888-382-1222 (TTY 1-866-290-4236). To register for the National Do Not Call List, call (888) 382-1222, and follow these instructions:
-
You will be asked to enter your phone number.
-
The computer will check for a match between the number you entered and the numberfrom which you are calling.
-
If it matches, you will hear a message informing you that you are registered. You must call from the phone number you want to put on the Do Not Call Registry. You can only register the number you are calling from.
The BBB provides reports and general information regarding businesses and charities both locally and nationally.
