Today is my last day with the Tri-State BBB and so my last day writing for this blog. I’ve enjoyed posting here and I have some favorites from the past three years that I’d like to revisit today. Here they are along with some lessons learned while working at the BBB:
Cell Phones and the Protection of Our Personal Information
Technology and privacy have been topics the BBB has been addressing for years. We know that consumers are always looking for ways to keep information safe, yet are eager to own and test the latest gadgets.
Whether you’re donating your phone, swapping it for a new one, recycling, or banishing it to a junk drawer you’ll want to remind yourself how to ensure the information it contains can’t be used against you! This post can help you do that.
Tips for Avoiding Rental Car Frustration
If you’re like me, you may wrongly assume that if fast food restaurants accept debit cards, everyone must. What is true is that sometimes you won’t be able to get by with a bank card; instead you’ll need a credit card.
And while there are always options and workarounds, if you don’t know in advance what those are you can waste a lot of time – as described in this post, lots of valuable vacation time!
There was a time when all we talked (and wrote) about was for the homeowners. (Just look at all the posts on foreclosure last year.) As a renter, I wanted something that hit closer to home. (Pun intended!)
I found tips for those looking for a rental property and now that I’m preparing to move, I can write with certainty that these are important steps to follow.
For example, when I signed my last lease a few years ago my rent sounded reasonable until I calculated additional fees like use of a garage, monthly pet fees, etc. And even though my landlord assured us we could break out lease without issue as long as we gave notice, now that the time has come we are having trouble. You guessed it: we didn’t get it in writing.
So learn from my mistakes and follow these tips. I assure you it’s worth a read.
I love this one. Bartering helps you save money, allows for creative partnerships, assists businesses in need, and encourages collaboration. Small businesses, nonprofits, and individuals can benefit from this system. How? Read more!
