BBB to Begin Taking Applications for Student of Integrity Scholarships

American Dollars Falling from the SkyMost students have recently gone back to school, and while you may think it is too early to think about the future, high school seniors may already be thinking about college and how to pay for it.  Scholarships are a great way to help pay for schooling and the BBB is proud to announce we will begin taking applications for our annual Student of Integrity Scholarship at the beginning of September and continue through October 15th

This is the eighth year for the essay competition which asks high school seniors from our 18-county service area* to submit a 750-1000 word essay demonstrating their understanding of ethics.  In particular, we’ve asked the student to select one or more words from a list of ethical principles and explain why they chose the particular principle(s), what it means to them and include a specific personal example of how the student was challenged or struggled through a difficult situation and how they overcame the situation by applying the principle(s) chosen.  A student may obtain a copy of the application from their school’s guidance counselor or download a copy from our website. Students may also apply for the scholarship online at bbb.org/Evansville/scholarship.

The essays will be judged by an independent panel of educators from the tri-state area.  First place will be awarded a $5000 scholarship and two runners’ up will each be awarded a $2500 scholarship. The scholarship is payable to the college of the recipient’s choice and is not restricted in any manner other than it must be used for school-affiliated expenses during the first academic year.  The recipients will be notified in early November and honored during the 2014 Business of Integrity Torch Awards, which takes place November 20th.
