Beware of Credit Card Skimmers at a Gas Station or ATM!

One can never be too careful when it comes to protecting their personal information. Your BBB® would like to warn everyone about the dangers of gas station and ATM credit card skimmers as they may leave you penniless in just a few seconds!

Here’s how the scam works: ID thieves attach skimmers to machines in order to steal personal information, placing these devices on top of the actual ATM or gas station credit card slot.

When you insert your credit card in the skimmer, the skimmer copies your credit card information and sends it to fraudsters.

To make sure you are not inserting your card into an unsecured device, try pulling on the said device and see if it comes off. If it does, it’s probably a skimmer.

Also, be on the lookout for small cameras pointing at the keypad. Inspect the gas station or ATM card slot and look for unusual features.

If you believe you have been victimized by a credit card skimmer, contact your credit card company immediately and report your experience to!
