Warning: Damage from Fireworks May Not Be Covered By Your Insurance!

Your BBB® has learned that the Indiana Department of Insurance has issued a warning regarding the use of fireworks during the upcoming Independence Day celebrations. Area residents are reminded that accidental fires and damages may not be covered by insurance. However, if you or your household have suffered injuries or damages due to another person’s use of fireworks, you may be eligible to claim benefits.

“It’s important for Hoosiers to consider the consequences before using fireworks,” stated IDOI Commissioner Stephen W. Robertson. “If someone using fireworks accidentally starts a fire, to their own property or that of their neighbors, they may not be able to turn to their insurance company for coverage.”

Fireworks are responsible for 18,500 fires per year, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). The average damages are $43 million and around 3 people die due to improper fireworks use every year. To avoid all incidents, let professionals handle fireworks or read the labels and make sure you understand the instructions.
