Your BBB® would like to announce that starting today, July 5th, the FTC will start mailing 173,000 refund checks totaling over $49 million to DeVry students in compensation for the university’s misleading ads. According to this FTC complaint, DeVry aired ads deceptively claiming that their graduates will find jobs in their field within 6 month of graduation and that their respective salaries will be 15% higher than if they would’ve graduated from a different college or university.
In this $100 million settlement, DeVry agreed to pay $49 million to the FTC so that the FTC can refund some students, while $50.6 million will cover debt relief. You may be entitled to a refund if:
- You enrolled for the first time in a BA or associate’s degree at DeVry University between January 1, 2008, and October 1, 2015;
- You paid a minimum of $5000 with cash, loans or military benefits;
- You did not receive debt or loan forgiveness during this settlement
- You completed at least one class credit.
If you receive a refund, you have 60 days to deposit or cash your check.
And please remember: the FTC doesn’t require a fee or any other kind of payment in exchange for a refund. If you have questions about this settlement, you can contact an FTC refund administrator at 1-844-578-2645.
