Don’t Forget to Check with the BBB

Your Better Business Bureau would like to remind you that our Business Reviews are available to you free of charge to provide information about businesses. With the harsh winter this year and the severe thunderstorms we are experiencing, you may be approached by businesses offering inspections and repairs for damage. Regardless of whether a business is local or not, be sure to check their BBB Business Review for valuable information to help you be an informed consumer.

The Better Business Bureau develops Business Reviews on all businesses that we are aware of. These Business Reviews include the business’s rating with the BBB, the business’s accreditation status with the BBB, and the business’s complaint history with the BBB. Additionally a Business Review also includes principals of the business, any government actions that the Bureau is aware of and any advertising review that the Bureau has conducted related to the business.

Anytime you are thinking about purchasing from a business, especially if it is a long-term or high-priced purchase and could present financial risk for you, be sure to check them out with the BBB. Here are some common scenarios where it is especially important for you to check out a business.

*Hiring a contractor including a plumber, electrician, roofer, landscaper, heating and air contractor or any business that will be working in or around your home.

*Purchasing or repairing a car.

*Purchasing a big-ticket item especially one that will need a warranty or service agreement such as appliances or electronics.

*Signing up with a service provider such has a phone, internet or cable provider.

*Purchasing risk-management services such as insurance policies.

*Contemplating any purchase or business arrangement that is financially significant to you the consumer.

While the Better Business Bureau cannot guarantee your individual experience with a particular business; knowing the business’s complaint history, rating and accreditation status gives you information to make an informed decision as a consumer.
