Facebook Privacy Post Making Rounds Again

Social media continues to grow, and with it, the chances for scams and hoaxes grow as well. Your BBB® has heard about a recent Facebook post that continues to circulate even though it appears to have been debunked several times over.

You may have already seen it, at least once, on a Friend’s timeline.  It starts with a statement that Facebook is changing their privacy policy, and in order to protect your selfies and posts, you need to copy a long statement containing a bunch of legal-ease and post it to your timeline.

According to a CNN article posted earlier this week, this is a hoax that has been going around for seven years.  In the article, CNN debunks the hoax again and states that “Facebook hasn’t changed its privacy settings” and “what you post doesn’t belong to Facebook.”

If you still worried about your content, you may want to take a look at Facebook’s terms of service, which states, in relevant part: “You own all of the content and information you post on Facebook, and you can control how it is shared through your privacy and application settings.”

Your BBB would like to remind all Facebook users out there to research claims like this as well as any offers for “free” trips, gifts, airfare, etc. as these are often click-bait for scammers.
