This past Friday Amanda wrote about a grant scheme that was brought to our attention here at your BBB where the schemers were offering a grant in the amount of $7000.00.
On Friday, I received a call from a consumer who had received a postcard with a toll-free number of (800) 321-6563. The grant amount was for $20,000.00.
A check on www.800notes.com shows that people had received these postcards since 2011. The experience of some of these consumers was that no one answered their calls. Others mention that the schemers wanted a payment of $12.99 with additional payments of $12.99 that were recurring.
Again, we want to point out that the Federal government doesn’t use third-parties to advertise grant offers or in the assisting of obtaining government grants.
Your BBB offers one more tip if you receive such an offer through the mail; contact your local post office and get in touch with the postal inspector as these offers may constitute mail fraud.
