Imposter Scams

Your BBB® continues to hear from consumers, almost daily, regarding a call, email or text from someone claiming that they have computer problems, won a prize or owe money. We want to help spread the word that most of these calls are from imposters. These imposters pose as government agencies like the IRS, FTC or Social Security Administration as well as computer technology companies and lottery organizations. By using a names of well-known entities, they are attempting to gain your trust so you’ll send your money or personal information to them.

So how do you avoid being taken in by a scam like this? Check out the PSA below from your BBB and the Evansville Police Department regarding these scams. Special thanks to CBS 44 and Fox 44 for help with the production, and to the EPD for help with the taping.

You can report a suspected imposter scam to the Evansville Police Department or your BBB through BBB ScamTracker.
