The BBB receives numerous calls about insurance companies. Unfortunately, you do not know if an insurance company is meeting your needs until you file a claim. Obviously consumers want insurance companies to cover all costs, and insurance companies can’t spend more than they earn from their policies. What recourse do you have if you feel you are not getting fair compensation for your accident and/or damages? If you are not satisfied with the response from your insurance provider, you may file a complaint against your insurance company with the BBB or contact your state insurance regulator.

Insurance is regulated at the state level. The officials listed below enforce laws and regulations for each type of insurance. If you have a question or complaint about your insurance company’s policies, contact the company first before you contact your state insurance regulator.

Another resource that may be useful before doing business with an insurance company is Am Best. This organization rates insurance companies and also provides financial information about them.
