Local Authorities Issue Alert on Bank Calls

By on July 3, 2014

Upset old guy on phoneYour Better Business Bureau (BBB) has received several calls over the past week from consumers stating they are receiving calls from someone claiming to be German American Bank and asking for personal or banking information. Some consumers are customers of the bank while others are not. Any calls claiming to be from a bank and asking for sensitive information should be treated as suspicious. Your bank already has your banking information and there is no reason for other institutions to call and ask for such information.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Department issued an alert regarding the same type of call and advises recipients of such calls to hang up and call the actual banking institution using a number you know is correct.

Remember anyone can call and claim they are with a particular business or institution so it is important to be wary and not provide sensitive information over the phone. If you do receive such a call and have a phone number to report you can contact the Attorney General’s office at 800-382-5516 and the Federal Trade Commission at 877-382-4357.
