Memorial Day – The Unofficial Start to Summer

Vietnam Veterans MemorialToday, Memorial Day is the unofficial beginning to the summer season. All of us at the Tri-State Better Business Bureau want to extend our appreciation to those who served and sacrificed themselves in the cause of liberty.

Although many of us will be having cookouts, visiting parks, spending time with friends and family, and watching sporting events, your BBB wants to remind our readers of the original reason for observing Memorial Day. The “holiday” began in the South with the “decoration” of the graves of the fallen soldiers from both sides of the War Between the States. It was originally known as Decoration Day, but in the Northern states, Memorial Day. This is a time to honor and remember those who gave their lives in service to our country.

Here in Evansville, the local veterans will conduct Memorial Day services at both city cemeteries on Monday. Locust Hill starts @ 10am and Oak Hill starts @ 11am.

If you’re outside of our service area, check with your local veterans’ organizations or your local newspaper to learn of the times for your local observances.

Our offices will be closed on Monday, and we will return on Tuesday, May 27, when we will be available to assist you. In the meantime, you may visit our website www.bbb.org/evansville, or you may call (812) 473-0202, or if outside of Evansville, (800) 359-0979 where you can obtain Business and Charity Reviews both locally and in North America. You may also file complaints on our website. Start With Trust ® with your BBB.
