Resolving Problems with Businesses

The BBB can resolve most disputes between individuals and businesses.  However, this requires voluntary compliance on the part of the business. And what happens when the business doesn’t wish to resolve disputes, or creates numerous complaints from changes in management, automated billing systems, poorly trained customer service personnel, or chooses not to work with the Better Business Bureau?

Then it’s time to consider turning to alternate entities to help resolve these disputes.

Within state government, most complaints go through the office of the Attorney General. You will find links to Attorney General web sites for each of the 50 U.S. states, plus Washington D.C., American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands via the National Association of Attorneys General Web Site

The Indiana Attorney General Complaints Page offers six Indiana complaint Forms: Do Not Call, Do Not Fax, Gas Gouging, Identity Theft, Mortgage Fraud, and a general form for all other issues.

The Illinois Consumer Protection Page offers their complaint form in standard print, large print and Spanish.

The Kentucky Attorney General Complaint Forms Page offers a form specifically for automobile-related problems, and one for all other consumer issues.

The Federal Communications Commission Complaint Form

The FCC regulates virtually every form of communication in the USA. The one gray area is the internet. The FCC oversees and takes complaints concerning telemarketing, prerecorded messages, caller id spoofing, do-not-call, junk faxes, land line telephone, wireless phone, internet-based telephone, (VOIP), broadband service, television, radio, cable, satellite, broadcast tower lights, signal interference and access to services and equipment by persons with disabilities.

The Federal Trade Commission complaint form covers issues of identity theft, data breach by a business, telemarketing practices, spam email, debt collection and credit reporting. Choose other, if none of these describe your problem.

If you are having a problem with a national bank, and have first tried to resolve it directly without success, then try the National Banks online customer complaint form.

Finally, unless your complaint deals with a dispute with your employer, discrimination, or medical or legal incompetence, file your complaint with your BBB.
