Even though it’s cold out side, spring will be here before we know it. And I know many of our readers are already thinking about fixing up their lawns in preparation for warm days.

If you’re like me, you’ll have your gloves, shears, and trash bags ready the first warm day. But if you’re planning to seek out a professional to fertilize your lawn or apply a weed killer, there’s something you should know.

According to the Office of Indiana State Chemist (OISC), applying a fertilizer or weed killer to a lawn for money requires a license.  Even if they will be using standard products purchased at any home improvement store, they still need a license.

Why? It is the job of the OISC to monitor the distribution, storage, and proper usage of these chemicals.  Having a license or certification helps ensure individuals handling these chemicals are qualified to do so.
