If you are looking for a nanny or caregiver job, your BBB® would like to warn you that there are plenty of scammers trying to take advantage of that. When researching websites like care.com or sittercity.com, make sure to recognize and avoid imposter scams.
Here’s how they usually work: someone will send you a message pretending to be interested in hiring you, but they have a “small” request first: accept and cash a check for them. The scammer will then tell you to keep some of the money and send everything else to a supplier to pay for equipment required for the job.
The check is fake and it takes the bank a while to discover that, which means that you will be able to cash it but will also be responsible for all the damages later on since you are the one who cashed the check. And of course, there is no job.
